Investment Advice

Investment Advice

Chaim Investment Advisors is a Registered Investment Advisor firm. We take our Investment Advice seriously as one of the pillars of our firm’s practice.

At the root of all of our investment advice are three principles:

  1. Fee Only, Fiduciary advice that does not profit from financial product sales
  2. A dedication to Low Cost investing
  3. Expertise in efficient portfolio construction

Investment Advice- What do we mean?

Investment Advice is any professional advice we give on investments in particular. This includes Mutual Funds, Stocks, Bonds, Real Estate, Exchange Traded Funds (ETF’s), and Variable Annuity Sub-Accounts.

Any advice we give that isn’t about specific investments (such as a retirement readiness assessment) we classify as financial planning– another large piece of what we do.

Working With Us

Our process can work one of two ways: Hourly Rate Investment Advice & Managed Asset Clients. How we work together is shaped by which method the client prefers.

In either case, we begin with an initial consultation. This free introductory meeting orients us to your planning needs and tells us the scope of the plan itself. We then complete a detailed fact finder. This gives us everything we need to get started on your investment advice project. In the past, we used one “omnibus” fact finder worksheet, but in recent times, we favor more tailored questionnaires that are relevant to the scope and needs of the project. This includes Social Security questionnaires, Investor Profile (age, marital status, time horizon, etc.), Risk Tolerance, and Socially Responsible Investing, among others.

Turn-around on a plan’s completion depends greatly on the complexity of the project, but we usually complete projects within 10 to 15 days.

Managed Assets

A Managed Assets relationship is a classic model of working with an Investment Advisor. The client has Chaim Investment Advisors manage the portfolio full-time in this model.

We do not take custody of client funds: your investments are kept at a Custodial financial institution (we primarily use Altruist, Vanguard, Nationwide, and SSG/Pershing currently), where we make transactions on your behalf. You always have access to your funds through the Third Party Custodian.

Hourly Rate

Hourly Rate Investment Advice has been a specialty of Chaim Investment Advisors since our founding. The ability to pursue hourly rate relationships is one of the defining factors in our decision to be a fully independent firm.

Comprehensive hourly rate projects are best suited to investors who want a detailed framework for their financial future, but want to implement all of the advice offered by an Investment Advisor by themselves.

This includes younger workers who want a roadmap to creating their financial future with detailed instructions along the way, but prefer to do all of the day-to-day portfolio management on their own. It also is popular with retirees who have a fixed income and more tightly financial parameters that needs little maintenance.

Of course, we work with our hourly rate clients on an as-needed basis: when new situations arise, we’re always happy to help with the next phase of your planning needs.
