How COVID 19 Has Impacted our Operations as a Firm

I’ll say right at the beginning here that this is not an update on our market sentiment or reaction on a Macro Economic analysis level to the market fall out from COVID 19. You can read that here if that’s something you’re looking for. I also plan on doing an update to this after the Passover holiday. In a more imminent way, it has impacted our operations day to day and this is an update on that.

Meetings

For social distancing and health risk management purposes, all meetings have moved to Zoom/Google Hangouts/etc. We aren’t currently doing in person meetings for the near future. If you’d like to schedule a meeting via zoom, feel free to do so on our contact page.

We’ve worked with clients across the country for many years now, and essentially we are applying our workflow protocols we use for those clients with all clients (yes, even the OHSU clients across the street from our office).

Any document sharing and contract/other document signing can be done securely online. There’s nothing we can’t currently do that we did before.

Trading & Investing

For our Managed Assets clients, nothing has changed and you’ll have the same experience you’re used to. Our Custodians (Nationwide, Vanguard, and SSG/Pershing) have kept us updated daily via email and webinars, and there have thus far been no disruptions to our ability to conduct normal business. If that changes, we will update you as technology allows. We have a detailed disaster and business disruption protocol in place for any foreseeable disruption.

Until When?

We’re respecting the timeline put out by the State of Oregon. As a Fiduciary practice, we have to extend our Fiduciary duty of due care to the health of our clients and their loved ones. No one at the firm has been confirmed to have Covid 19 at this point, but we are taking Social Distancing seriously.

With that said, we really miss the in person relationships with clients and hope to be back to some semblance of “regular” soon.

Going forward, we understand that some clients will prefer to have as little personal contact as possible until there is a vaccine for coronavirus. We will absolutely accommodate such concerns indefinitely by using digital engagement for all who prefer this.

SBA Loans, Stimulus, etc.

As a Fiduciary Investment Advisor practice, it’s important for us to recognize the limitations of our expertise. We aren’t giving explicit SBA, disaster loan, or stimulus strategizing advice in the form of coaching or advising on filling out applications. These things tend to fall into the zones of Law and Accounting (we aren’t a Law or Accounting firm). We have a number of money coaches, CPA’s, and Business Law experts we can refer you to for more specific advice (just drop a request in our contact page).

With that said, we continue to work with debt management, loan pay off planning, and other investing and Financial Planning topics related to these and other personal finance topics. If you’re curious about whether your project fits with what we do, feel free to send us an email or give us a call so we can discuss the scope of your project.

Conclusion

As we prepare for the Holiday season (Passover starts tomorrow), we have those who are ill, alone, or in need in our prayers. We hope to emerge from the Passover season- itself a remembrance of escape from a plague- into a healthier and more peaceful world. Whatever holiday you’re celebrating this year (Easter, Pesach, Ramadan, or anything else), we hope it is restful and look forward to seeing you soon!
